Physiotherapy for Runners in Burwood and the Inner West
Running is one of the most popular forms of exercise in Sydney’s Inner West — from the paths around Homebush Bay and Bicentennial Park to the streets of Burwood, Strathfield and Concord. When running injuries strike, Burwood Physio is your local expert.
Common Running Injuries We Treat
- Shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome) — pain along the shinbone, common in new runners or those increasing mileage too quickly
- Achilles tendinopathy — pain and stiffness at the back of the ankle, often worse in the morning
- Plantar fasciitis — heel pain, especially with the first steps of the day
- IT band syndrome — lateral knee pain caused by iliotibial band tightness
- Patellofemoral pain (runner’s knee) — pain around the kneecap with running and stairs
- Stress fractures — bone stress injuries from high training loads
- Hip flexor and hamstring strains
Our Approach to Running Injury Treatment
We take a whole-body approach to running injuries. Rather than just treating the site of pain, we identify the root cause — whether that is training load, biomechanics, muscle weakness, footwear or a combination of factors.
Treatment may include hands-on therapy, shockwave therapy for tendon conditions, dry needling, strength and conditioning programs, running technique analysis and a graduated return-to-running protocol.
